There’s something about summer evenings in Boulder that just feels made for photos. For Amiliana’s senior session, we headed out to Chautauqua Park, one of my favorite locations for Denver senior photos. With the Flatirons rising in the background and the tall grasses glowing in that mid-summer light, it was the perfect setting to capture a mix of natural, effortless, and elevated portraits.
Amiliana is a senior at Columbine High School in Littleton, and from the start she brought such an easy confidence to the session. That’s always the goal with my shoots. I want you to feel comfortable and relaxed, not overly posed or stiff, so you can show up as yourself. The combination of open fields and the mountain backdrop gave us so much variety, which is why Chautauqua senior photos are always a great choice for anyone looking for that classic Colorado feel.
July ended up being the ideal time for this session. The grasses were still lush and green, with just enough tan and golden tones mixed in to add depth and texture to the images. That contrast works beautifully on camera, especially when paired with soft evening light. It is one of the reasons I often recommend this time of year to seniors who want a natural, outdoorsy look without everything feeling overly bright or flat.
One of the highlights of this session was Amiliana’s outfit choices. If you are wondering what to wear for senior photos, this is a perfect example of how to do it right. She kept things simple and versatile. She started with a light, textured white top paired with darker jeans, which created a clean contrast against the greens and earth tones around her. She also brought a denim overall look that added a more relaxed, playful feel. She finished with a black dress that gave us something a little more elevated and timeless. Each outfit felt true to her style while also working seamlessly with the environment, which is exactly what you want.
