I’ve been doing a lot of portrait sessions at Mount Falcon (West Trailhead) lately. It is a beautiful mountain location near Denver and gets great light late into sunset. Mount Falcon features lots of evergreen trees and awesome views of the Front Range mountains. It’s perfect for high school senior photos, family photos, or general portraits for anyone who wants to show off what Colorado has to offer! It can be quite popular with Denver photographers, so it can seem busy with other photoshoots going on, but there is plenty of space for all of us to share and get beautiful photos.
I recently did a shoot with Elysia and Gina (sisters) and their families. They did a joint photoshoot with their two families and it worked out beautifully! The kids were hilarious and we got some gorgeous photos of them and their families. I love being a Denver photographer and capturing these families in and around the Denver area.
We started off in the lower parking lot, which tends to be less busy and works well for getting everyone comfortable with me and being in front of the camera. The grass is also a little better looking there, since no one else tramples it like they do in the more popular parts of the park. So the grass looks green and healthy (in Spring and Summer) and it’s a nice place to start for photos. We got the kids warmed up and having fun and we got some great shots of them and the different variations.

Next we moved out to the main part of Mount Falcon, which is an open field with killer views. This is more popular and had more photoshoots going on, but we found a beautiful spot all to ourselves. It was awesome! The kids were having a great time and so were the adults and that makes for the best photos. We got some beautiful candids with everyone laughing and having fun. Those are my favorite family photos.
