I recently had a commercial photoshoot with a company based in Bozeman, MT called Jelt Belt. They were looking for a Denver photographer to capture outdoor lifestyle photos with an urban vibe and Denver was a perfect fit for their brand. I worked with Jen, the owner and founder of Jelt Belt, alongside her marketing team to come up with a vision and plan for our shoot and I’m really happy with how it turned out!
Jelt Belt is a belt company based in Bozeman, MT. Their belts are functional, lightweight, stylish and what’s even more awesome is that they are made out of recycle plastic bottles. They are manufactured in Montana by women sewers living on rural ranches as well as incarcerated women in the correctional facility in Billings, MT. The company empowers women and breaks the cycle of incarceration by interviewing, training, paying, and giving incarcerated women the skills needed to be successful once they are released. Jelt Belt is a Certified B-Corporation and has donated thousands of dollars to charities all around the globe. Go check out Jelt Belt and see for yourself!
We did the shoot in Commons Park/LoHi area of Denver, starting on the bridge that goes over I-25 and working our way over to the Riverfront area. I love this spot because it offers a good mix of urban environment, views of the city skyline, parks, and water features. It works for brands in the outdoor industry because it gives you that big city type of vibe but also a mountain lifestyle.
I have to be honest, the belt was somewhat difficult to photograph at first. We couldn’t get it to sit just right and it’s hard when the client brings clothes for the models because things never fit quite right. And for this particular shoot, having jeans that fit well is very important to how the close-up shots look in the photos. So we had some difficulty getting that figured out at first.
We worked with models from Wilhelmina Denver, Romelle Rogers and Nathan Crumpton. I’ve used Wilhelmina several times for other commercial photography and advertising shoots and I’ve always been super happy with how the models have worked out. Romelle and Nathan rocked it! Hair and make-up was done by Brooke Rock. She always kills it.
I’ve been digging the commercial work lately, especially when the client wants lifestyle photography. This is my preferred style of photography because it makes it so much more authentic. Even if they are models, you can bring out a sense of personality in an artistic manner.
